WHAT IF MY CHILD IS NEW TO LACROSSE?
That's GREAT! We welcome and encourage new players at any age to the sport. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Lots of players are new or have only played one season. If your child likes a fast paced, exciting, challenging and FUN game experience with great coaches - Lacrosse offers all that and more…
WHAT ARE THE DIVISIONS?
For girls it is divided by grade: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th.
For boys as of 2018 the divisions are age groupings: 14U (red & blue), 12U, 11U, 10U, 9U & 8U. The KCYLL gives a three month allowance over the US Lacrosse date of 9/1 of the preceding year. Therefore a 12U must be 11 years old or younger on June 1 of the year preceding the season of play. This will effectively group all boys with their classmates through 6th grade unless your child is many months older than his classmates. All 8th graders regardless of age are permitted to play in 14U. Here is a link to the US Lacrosse age eligibility chart and remember the 3 months allowance from KCYLL: https://www.uslacrosse.org/sites/default/files/public/documents/rules/age-group-chart-17-18.pdf
WHEN IS THE YOUNGEST AGE MY CHILD CAN START?
As of the 2017 season, the youngest grade for boys is typically 1st grade as the 8U division is 1st/2nd grade combined. The youngest grade for girls is 2nd grade but please realize that they will be playing in a 3rd/4th grade combined division.
